Edna Edith Sayers

My current interests are in the philosophy of language, specifically in those ideas about language and intellectual function (acquiring knowledge and developing models of the human lifeworld through which we are enabled to understand what we perceive and learn). My focus is primarily on those philosophical ideas advanced by 20th-century thinkers that seem to me to have significant bearing on the Deaf World. Philosophers have pointed the way, and my goal here is to select and arrange some of their sign posts so as to demonstrate where they can lead us in the Deaf World. Where they lead will not be a surprise: deaf children need everyday exposure to a signed language — from birth. My investigation aims to show why this is so.
